In 1978 Yellowknife's Ukrainian dance group was organized by Elsie Marykuca with 25 dancers.
Nameless until they were asked to perform at Expo 86, the Aurora Ukrainian Dancers were born.  After a brief hiatus, the group re-organized in 1995 with instructors Denise Chenier and DonnaMarie Ouellette, Elsie's daughter. Starting with 18 dancers the group has grown to stay around 40 dancers
